Hello, I’m John! By day, I fight fraud — currently as a Senior Fraud Strategy Manager at Imprint Payments, after stops doing data science and fraud modeling at Sardine AI, Acorns, and Charles Schwab. I’ve got an M.S. in Data Science and a couple of B.S. degrees (Math and Computer Science) from Texas Tech, if you want the formal version — or just check LinkedIn for the full history.

This site is where I nerd out on machine learning and applied math for fun — concept, math, and implementation, worked through from scratch — along with side projects (often ML applied to something totally unrelated to my day job, like sailing or baseball) and the occasional opinion on AI, ML, and fraud prevention. I started it as an accountability tool for deepening my own understanding of these algorithms, and it’s grown into something I hope is useful to others working in the space too.

Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my family. We’re big on hobbies, such as sailing, kayaking, cooking, fishing, swimming, and shark tooth hunting! When I can, I’ll try and include these activities in my projects.

If you spot an error or typo in a post, please email me so I can fix it.
